With two new “wildcards” affecting the reopening of links between Cuba and the US, could recent agreements be quickly scuttled?
The recent death of onetime dictator Fidel Castro and the election of Donald Trump here at home mean that Obama’s push to restore relations between the two countries is now in doubt.
That comes at the very time when US airlines, including JetBlue and others, have announced new direct flights to Havana.
Via Twitter, the president-elect said yesterday that “If Cuba is unwilling to make a better deal for the Cuban people, the Cuban/American people and the US as a whole, I will terminate [the] deal.”
Via CBS News this morning, Julia Sweig, author of Cuba: What Everyone Needs to Know, offered her take on the uncertainty surrounding this fledgling relationship.
