Liberals across social media are accusing Attorney General Jeff Sessions of being a racist for noting the “Anglo-American heritage” of the office of the sheriff.

While many falsely labeled him as a racist and claimed using such a term was insulting, liberals have apparently forgotten former President Barack Obama used the exact same term numerous times while in office.

“I want to thank every sheriff in America. Since our founding, the independently elected sheriff has been the people’s protector, who keeps law enforcement close to and accountable to people through the elected process,” Sessions said Monday during a speech before the National Sheriffs Association.

He added: “The office of sheriff is a critical part of the Anglo-American heritage of law enforcement.”

Sessions remarks about “Angelo-Americans” was immediately met by criticism from intolerant liberals, particularly Democratic Sens. Brian Schatz of Hawaii and Martin Heinrich of New Mexico, who accused Sessions of making racist comments.

Perhaps they have forgotten that Obama used the exact same phrase as Sessions, yet it was completely fine when a Democrat said it.

The Federalist Co-Founder Sean Davis found a blog post from the White House website in 2009 that detailed a conversation between Obama and then-British Prime Minister Gordon Brown about the Angelo-American heritage.

Guess what — no liberal outrage.

National Review Online Editor Charles Cooke also found two examples of Obama using the phrase “Anglo-American,” which was used just as appropriately as Sessions did during his speech.

The first example was in 2006 when Obama was a senator in Illinois.

During a Sept. 2008 interview with The Atlantic, Obama used the term again without a shred of push back or outrage from anyone.

Sessions was not making a racist term, but rather likely referring to the fact that the position of being a “sheriff” is similar to areas with historic connections to England.

According to Collins English Dictionary, the U.S. is listed as one of just a few nations that has sheriffs, along with England, Australia, Scotland, Wales, and New Zealand.

So when Obama says it, there’s no problem. When Sessions says it, he’s a racist.

This is just the latest example of how liberals will do and say anything to launch unsubstantiated attacks against Trump and his administration.
