After years of declining ratings and inherently biased coverage, big changes are expected to rock CNN.

According to Vanity Fair, CNN will lay off up to 50 employees this week from their digital department to try an offset revenue losses.

“We’ve been transparent about our strategy,” said Matt Dornic, vice president of communications for CNN Worldwide.

He added: “In order to innovate, grow and experiment, we’ve added more than 200 jobs in the past 18 months. Not every new project has paid off so we will stop some activities in order to reallocate those resources and enable future experimentation.”

The network has been expanding their digital team at an unprecedented rate. But with their ratings steadily declining over the past few years, the network appears to be spending and losing far more than they are bringing in.

CNN President Jeff Zucker has been focusing on digital shows and working with voice-activated devices such as Apple TV, Amazon Echo and Google Home to deliver the news.

The goal was to offset the revenue losses from the cable news side, which have been abysmal — especially since President Donald Trump took over last January.

A Republican strategist, who wished to remain anonymous, tells Media Equalizer that CNN doubled-down on the anti-Trump crusade and it has backfired badly.

“Go watch any CNN evening newscast and you will see nothing but liberals who loathe Trump,” he said. “They have spent the better part of a year building out an Obama All-Star team and it has resulted in viewers tuning them out.”

Many would agree that CNN created many of these problems all on their own. Rather than grow a reasonably fair and balanced news team, it has spent the last year hiring nothing but left-wing hosts who are obsessed with denigrating Trump and Republicans.

No one is watching CNN anymore. And with their failing ratings and revenue losses, some reports have suggested the upcoming layoffs may be the first of many for the fake news network.
