Backlash: Sharon Stone, Says Not all #metoo Claims Deserve Equal Treatment

It’s easy to forget that some things are complex. The #metoo movement is suffering from it.

In an interview with the Daily Mail on Sunday, Sharon Stone had a different take on Harvey Weinstein and #metoo.

“Harvey Weinstein should go to jail.” She said, but she was quick to note that many of the behaviors called out on bullhorns with the #metoo hashtag are not equal.

“In every crime there are misdemeanors and felonies, and I think if someone’s committed a misdemeanor they can’t be treated like they’ve committed a felony.”

Since news of Weinstein’s transgressions in the entertainment industry hit the public zeitgeist like a nuclear bomb, men have been going down left and right without due process. There is more damage behind the headlines. #metoo is undermining its own power by perpetuating stereotypes and throwing out reason.

Accusation has become Judge, jury, and sentence. We all lose out on that equation.

Whatever you may think of Sharon Stone, you have to admit that people deserve their day in court. The lines in sexual harassment can be very blurry.

For example, Dave Chappelle described his own relationship with Hollywood as “whorish” in an interview with Inside the Actors studio.

Men can behave that way too? That doesn’t compute with the #metoo narrative where men are powerful baddies and women are meek victims. Another thing that doesn’t compute with everybody in the stereotype driven movement is Sharon Stone’s idea that women can say no.

“We have two legs. You can leave a room. You can say “stop it”. You have an opportunity not to participate.”

Feminists are quick to respond that women are weaker and scared physically for their life, but Sharon said that that is not as often the case as they may say.

She said that standing up to bad men caused her to not get parts. She was proud enough to do that anyway and still became a box office dominator.

There is something to be said for standing tall to an abuser whether you are a man or a woman. Hollywood is about as rough a place as there is. It’s good to see a different opinion out there.
