#Winning: That’s Laura Ingraham’s style.

And she’s winning all over the place. In an exclusive interview, Media Equality Project Co-Founder Melanie Morgan found out what drives the talk titan to succeed, while Laura also reveals her secret vice!

Below, see the interview, followed by a transcript of their conversation:

Laura: There will be something in the show for everyone. All the right people will be annoyed. People will be surprised, I think. Pop culture as well as politics, and somethings that are not politically related, and we’ll talk about it from all angles, and we’ll have a lot of fun.

In the end, I’m hoping that some good will come of what we do every night. It’s a great privilege to have an audience every night.

I am who I am. I’m not going to do a lot of cooking segments. No knitting, sewing, no tips on how to get stains out of clothes. That’s USEFUL information, so I’ll just do the other stuff. (laugh.)

Mel: Jeff Flake is out, and you were responsible. Is this what you are going to be doing on your new show?
I have a little different role now that I’m hosting a show. I worked on this Kelli Ward deal a long time before I got the Fox hosting gig. I’m going to be an advocate for those who don’t have a voice in Washington, and I’m going to pull the curtain back on what’s happening and why. So when a politician says he or she is for immigration enforcement, we’re gonna tell you whether that’s really true.
when someone says I’m for free trade, I’m a free trader, I’m for free trade, I’ll say okay – what type of free trade? Do you think China should be able to distort the market place? Do you think our automobile manufacturing should automatically move to Mexico, so when you say you are a free trader, what does that mean? A lot of the cliche’s that have been bandied about this town have isolated, insulated and protected politicians for a long time. I think one of the great values to a Trump presidency is that he has held up a mirror to the establishment of both parties, and that is why you are seeing Flake fall away, Corker, and Eric Cantor being defeated. That is the beginning of my book, Billionaire at the Barricades, I take you behind the scenes to the defeat of Eric Cantor and what that meant, back in June of 2014.  That was the beginning of this new wave of populist activism.

Mel: Were you at all worried about coming out so early for Donald Trump? In the early primary days, it was pretty tricky as a radio show host, to not alienate your audience. Were you at all worried?

Laura: I really wasn’t worried about it was like the early days of 2006 when President George W. Bush nominated his pal Harriet Myers to the Supreme Court. A lot of folks might know I clerked for Justice Thomas and while I like George Bush personally, and it pained me to come to the conclusion I had to come out in opposition, to a Republican President, but I did, alongwith a few other prominent conservatives. She ended up pulling out of the nomination. That was necessary. A lot of listeners were unhappy with me. But I had to explain to them the allure of being celebrated by the elites, the Washington Post and others ..but while a nice person, Harriet Myers would not have even been in the top 1 percent of any lawyer not in Washington but the country. Just like back then I wasn’t worried about it and I didn’t really worry about it [during the primaries.] I’m at the point now where I just call it as I see it. I might be wrong, but I’m calling it.

Mel: You have three little people in your house.  I made the mistake of letting my kids come to their own conclusions about politics. To you talk politics with your daughter Maria, and sons Dimitry and Nicolas? Do you favor indoctrination?

Laura: Full scale indoctrination, absolutely! (Laughs.) No, I slip in somethings here and there, age appropriate.I explain to them what taxes are, what government is, and they’ve all gotten to meet the President and they all respect the President. We always talk about respecting the flag and patriotism. They are at a school where they learn songs like “Your a Grand Ole Flag” and all the patriotic music, and we play it in the car.  I think it’s really important to be the first educators in your family, but then …sometimes we are just interested in watching the Cartoon Network.

Mel: What is your secret vice? What do you love to do that you wouldn’t necessarily broadcast to everyone?

This is really bad, really embarrassing. I have been known to binge watch an entire year of Friends, it’s non political, and goofy.

Mel: What is your game plan to fight the Left, and win the Right with your new TV show?

Laura: The best revenge is success. It’s not even revenge, its a big country, there are a lot of people with different positions and I’m always willing to bring people on to debate. I like a fun give-and-take. That being said, there are a lot of people out there on the Left who don’t want to just defeat you in a debate, they want to destroy you. They want to take you out, to take you down. Maxine Waters said the other day that she wants to take ‘Donald Trump out.’ Imagine if a well-known Republican in Congress said that about President Obama, the way she said it.
You can’t have a thin skin and be in this business. I think I’m here for a very short period of time. We are all here for a blink. Our lives will be gone, and we’ll be a memory. So what do we leave behind? I intend to leave good stuff behind. I hope more good stuff than anything else.
