While CNN pushes and exceeds the limits of political extremism, is local news running the other way?

Sure, there may be many examples of stations following the cable news channel right over the cliff, but others may instead veer toward avoiding controversy altogether.

During an unbelivably busy news week that has done more to divide America that perhaps anything in recent memory, Boston’s WCVB-TV dove right into a major debate: Which way the toilet paper should hang!

Because the ABC affiliate made such an effort to highlight it throughout yesterday, the TP story really stood out, attracting many responses from incredulous viewers. On Facebook, a number of people wondered how such a story could be relevant at a time like this.

Has controversial content become so advertiser-unfriendly that this is what local “news” will look like from here on out?
