Saying that Obama is no more responsible for Chicago’s violence than George W. Bush was for New Haven’s, talk host Montel Williams argued he nonetheless “made the attempt at” curtailing it.

The city’s homicide rate has skyrocketed in recent times, calling national attention to the need to find a solution.

During an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett, Williams said that in general, he has traditionally been much less supportive of the outgoing president than some believe, seeing himself as politically independent.

“Right now we’re looking at Chicago and gonna hold him accountable for one city when we recognize that the nation was held hostage by a Congress that said on its first day, ‘he’s gonna fail’,” Williams contended.
